Surveillance Support Officer

About the role

The Surveillance Support Officer (SSO) will support the Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC) project’s Global Health Security workplan in the Philippines. Reporting to the EpiC/GHS Field Operations Manager, the SSO provides technical and operational assistance to Regional and Local Epidemiology and Surveillance Units (RESUs/LESUs) across several strategic regions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the implementation of Community Event‑based Surveillance and Response (CESR) in coordination with national and sub‑national authorities.
• Assist RESUs/LESUs in timely outbreak verification, field investigations, and response activities.
• Strengthen sub‑national readiness systems in line with national guidelines, the 7‑1‑7 performance framework, and project priorities.
• Collaborate with Zoonotic Diseases, Laboratory, Surveillance, IPC, Health Emergency Management, and EMCE teams.
• Ensure alignment of activities with the National Action Plan for Health Security, PHLS, and NLSP.

Required profile

• Experience providing technical and operational support to public health surveillance units.
• Familiarity with national public‑health guidelines and performance frameworks.
• Ability to work across multiple technical areas, including surveillance, laboratory systems, biosafety, IPC, and emergency management.
