Senior Backend Engineer - Retail Banking

About the role

ING is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer for its Retail Banking technology team in Manila, within ING Hubs Philippines, an international team supporting the Retail Banking business. The role involves designing, developing and improving backend solutions for critical banking services, while helping shape technical decisions, promoting engineering excellence and mentoring colleagues.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain reliable, high-quality backend applications
• Design and build RESTful APIs and backend services
• Write automated tests and champion quality-first engineering practices
• Set up and enhance CI/CD pipelines and apply DevOps and Agile ways of working
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and deliver new features
• Incorporate security best practices throughout the software development lifecycle
• Support team growth through knowledge sharing, mentoring and technical interviews
• Keep learning and exploring emerging technologies and engineering practices

Required profile

• Proven experience developing backend applications using Java 8, Java 11 or higher
• Strong experience with Spring and Spring Boot
• Solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles
• Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs
• Experience with unit testing and test automation frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including design patterns and clean coding practices
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Experience working within Agile development teams

• Nice to have: containerization and orchestration concepts
