Boat Engineer – US Navy Program

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Boat Engineer to support a unique US Navy program located on Diego Garcia. The role involves designing, constructing, and maintaining marine vessels and equipment while ensuring safety, quality, and project timelines.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct research and testing to inform marine vehicle and equipment design.
• Prepare technical reports, system diagnostics, and design analysis documentation.
• Present layout and engineering designs to clients and team members for feedback.
• Supervise design processes for structural, mechanical, and electrical systems.
• Oversee construction of marine vessels and equipment, ensuring quality and integrity.
• Perform quality control inspections, tests, and install upgrades as needed.
• Maintain safety standards and adhere to project timelines.
• Train and supervise engineering teams, including designers, mechanics, and construction staff.
• Perform maintenance, troubleshoot technical issues, and implement repairs on marine vehicles and equipment.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in marine engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of four years' experience as a marine engineer or in a similar role.
• Valid passport with at least one year remaining validity at hire.
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements and maintain required credentials.
• Valid country driver’s license and, if required, appropriate visa.

Required skills

• Proficiency with engineering design software: AutoCAD, Rhino 3D, SOLIDWORKS.
• Knowledge of maritime software systems such as HMI and PLC control systems.
