Assistant Plant Operator

About the role

The Assistant Plant Operator supports the Materials Handling team in daily operations at a power generation facility, ensuring safe, efficient and environmentally responsible handling of coal, ash, diesel and related equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee coal and ash handling processes, including ship unloaders, stackers/reclaimers, conveyors, dust suppression systems and diesel tanks.
• Conduct pre‑start checks, functional testing, identify equipment defects and raise maintenance work orders in the CMMS.
• Implement health, safety and environmental policies, permit‑to‑work (PTW) and LOTO procedures, and assist in emergency response activities.
• Monitor daily for spontaneous combustion risks, coal spillages and housekeeping issues, coordinating with operators to mitigate hazards.
• Unload diesel fuel tankers, record tank levels and operate assigned material‑handling vehicles.
• Maintain daily checklists, log sheets and time records; prepare operational reports using Microsoft Word and Excel; read and interpret facility P&IDs.
• Provide theoretical and practical training to new field operators and hand over equipment status to the next shift.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics or Chemical Engineering.
• At least one (1) year of relevant experience in the power generation industry.
• Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) license is an advantage.

Required skills

• Ability to operate and monitor MMI (Man‑Machine Interface) systems.
• Proficiency with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for work order creation.
• Competence in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel for reporting.
• Experience operating materials handling equipment and control panels.
• Capability to read and interpret Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
