Lead Buyer – Maritime Procurement

About the role

The Lead Buyer will oversee procurement for assigned vessel pods, ensuring timely and cost‑effective sourcing of technical stores, spare parts and services needed for vessel operations. Reporting to senior management, the role coordinates vessels, suppliers and internal teams to maintain operational efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Manage procurement requirements for assigned vessel pods, including technical stores, spare parts and services.
• Review purchase requisitions, quotations and supplier selections to ensure compliance with policies.
• Coordinate with vessels, suppliers, freight forwarders and technical teams for timely delivery.
• Monitor critical orders, maintain accurate procurement records and handle advance payments.
• Prepare reports on procurement activity, overdue invoices and supplier performance.
• Act as escalation point for supply‑chain issues affecting vessel operations.
• Maintain preferred vendor lists and support supplier relationship initiatives.
• Lead, coach and mentor a team of Buyers and Senior Buyers.
• Drive continuous‑improvement projects to enhance procurement efficiency.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field.
• 1–3 years experience as a Buyer or Senior Buyer in ship management.
• Strong understanding of maritime procurement processes and supply‑chain operations.
• Experience with Oracle or similar ERP systems (preferred).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
