Staff Nurse – Emergency Department

About the role

The Health Service Executive (HSE) is seeking a qualified Staff Nurse to join the Emergency Department at Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise. This permanent, full‑time position offers the opportunity to work in a fast‑paced acute care environment, delivering high‑quality nursing care to patients presenting with urgent medical needs.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to patients in the Emergency Department, assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure timely and effective treatment.
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in accordance with HSE standards.
• Participate in emergency response protocols and triage processes.
• Support the education and mentorship of junior staff and nursing students.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with current registration on the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
• Demonstrated post‑registration experience in an Emergency Department within an acute setting.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and make rapid clinical decisions.
• Strong communication skills and a commitment to patient‑centred care.
