Medical Coder – Inpatient DRG (Remote, Day Shift)

About the role

The Medical Coder – Inpatient DRG will analyze physician documentation in inpatient health records to assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes, DRG groups, and quality indicators. This remote, day‑shift position supports hospital reimbursement and quality reporting for a leading offshore services provider.

Key responsibilities

• Review inpatient records and assign ICD‑10‑CM, ICD‑PCS, MS‑DRG, APR‑DRG, POA, SOI, ROM, HAC and PSI indicators.
• Utilize encoder software and EMR systems (Epic, Cerner, Meditech) to ensure correct coding and compliance with CDC, CMS, AHA and AHIMA guidelines.
• Query physicians or Clinical Documentation Specialists when documentation is unclear and follow up to resolve issues.
• Collaborate with HIM and Patient Financial Services teams to address billing, claim denials and appeals.
• Maintain continuing education units and stay current with coding and reimbursement regulations.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years of inpatient DRG coding experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in an allied health field.
• Active Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) or Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP) credential.
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and HIPAA regulations.

Required skills

• ICD‑10‑CM and ICD‑PCS coding.
• MS‑DRG and APR‑DRG assignment.
• Identification of POA, SOI, ROM, HAC and PSI indicators.
• Proficiency with EMR platforms (Epic, Cerner, Meditech).
• Experience with encoder/grouping software (3M/Solventum, Encoder Pro, Codify) and Computer Assisted Coding tools.
• Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint).
