Senior Technical Specialist, Zoonotic Diseases

About the role

FHI 360 is seeking a Senior Technical Specialist to lead zoonotic disease activities under the STRIDES program in the Philippines. The role focuses on translating national strategies into practical, field‑level actions that strengthen surveillance, laboratory, biosafety, and emergency response systems.

Key responsibilities

• Operationalize multisectoral interventions for priority zoonotic and emerging infectious diseases.
• Provide hands‑on technical support for surveillance, laboratory diagnostics, biosafety and biosecurity, and outbreak response.
• Coordinate with the Department of Health, Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Animal Industry, and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
• Build capacity of sub‑national partners through training, mentorship, and on‑site assistance.
• Collect, analyze, and report data to inform rapid detection and response efforts.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in public health, epidemiology, veterinary medicine, or a related field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in zoonotic disease surveillance, laboratory systems, or biosafety/biosecurity.
• Proven experience working in low‑ and middle‑income settings, preferably in the Philippines or similar contexts.
• Strong field coordination and stakeholder engagement skills.
