Senior Communications Specialist

About the role

Optum is seeking a Senior Communications Specialist to design and deliver high‑quality internal and external communications that reinforce our brand, support our people, and engage stakeholders. You will work closely with executives and cross‑functional teams to shape messaging, support change initiatives, and manage public‑relations activities.

Key responsibilities

• Create clear, compelling written content for both internal and external audiences.
• Develop and coordinate communication plans, including those linked to change management.
• Maintain and update communication policies, procedures, and company media such as websites.
• Manage public‑relations activities, including shareholder and public information services.
• Collaborate with executives and key stakeholders to understand needs and deliver effective messaging.
• Edit, proofread, and refine content to ensure accuracy and readability.
• Handle multiple projects in a fast‑paced, time‑sensitive environment.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in journalism, writing, or editing.
• Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading abilities.
• Experience supporting change‑management communications.
• Strong verbal communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Ability to work independently, meet tight deadlines, and manage multiple requests.
• Experience partnering with executive‑level leaders.

Required skills

• Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
• Familiarity with AI tools for drafting communications and templates.
• Knowledge of AP Style.
