Research Engineer – Advanced Manufacturing (Robotics & Additive Manufacturing)

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Research Engineer to join our Advanced Manufacturing team, focusing on robotics and additive manufacturing. The role combines automation expertise with a basic understanding of materials science to develop next‑generation manufacturing solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and optimise robotic systems for automated and autonomous manufacturing workflows.
• Design and implement additive manufacturing processes for prototyping and functional parts.
• Integrate robotics into AM systems for material handling, inspection, and post‑processing.
• Create control algorithms and automation scripts using ROS, Python, or PLC environments.
• Troubleshoot and improve existing setups to enhance repeatability, precision, and throughput.
• Apply basic materials knowledge to select and qualify polymers, metals, and composites for AM.
• Collaborate with materials engineers to understand processing‑material interactions.
• Contribute to experimental design, data collection, and analysis of process performance.
• Document processes, findings, and results in technical reports and presentations.

Required profile

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Manufacturing Engineering or a closely related field.
• Strong foundation in robotics, automation, or controls engineering.
• Hands‑on experience with desktop FDM additive manufacturing systems.
• Familiarity with basic materials science principles relevant to manufacturing.
• Proficiency in CAD tools such as CATIA, NX or Fusion 360.
• Experience with programming or scripting languages (Python, C++).
• Excellent problem‑solving and communication abilities.
