Medical Director – Oncology & Hematology

About the role

ICON plc is seeking a Medical Director to lead Oncology and Hematology medical affairs across its global portfolio. The role combines strategic medical leadership with hands‑on scientific guidance to shape clinical development programs.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic medical leadership and guidance on project teams throughout the project lifecycle.
• Offer expert medical and scientific consultation to inform study design, execution, and safety monitoring.
• Ensure compliance with ethical, legal, and regulatory standards in all medical activities.
• Represent the Medical Affairs department in business development and client engagements.
• Deliver operational oversight within Medical Affairs, stepping in for senior management when required.

Required profile

• Medical degree (MD or equivalent) with specialization in Oncology or Hematology.
• Minimum 7 years of clinical practice as a board‑certified Oncologist/Hematologist or extensive experience in Oncology/Hematology clinical research (investigator, medical monitor, safety physician, etc.).
• Proven track record of medical leadership and consultation within pharmaceutical or biotechnology companies.
• Strong understanding of regulatory and ethical requirements in clinical research.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to represent the department externally.
• Willingness to work occasional on‑call shifts.
