Industrial Designer – Luggage & Travel Accessories

About the role

We are looking for an Industrial Designer to create innovative, high‑performance luggage, travel bags and everyday carry accessories. The role blends fashion, textile engineering and hardware design to deliver next‑generation travel solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Ideate and develop next‑generation hardside and softside luggage, backpacks, organizers and travel accessories based on consumer trends and ergonomic data.
• Custom‑design proprietary hardware components such as ergonomic handles, durable wheel assemblies, custom zippers, magnetic buckles and TSA‑approved locking mechanisms.
• Select and curate colors, materials and finishes, experimenting with innovative textiles, lightweight polycarbonate shells, recycled plastics, high‑grade aluminum and performance fabrics while prioritising durability, weight reduction and sustainability.
• Translate 2D concepts into precise 3D CAD models (SolidWorks, Rhino, Fusion 360) ensuring mechanical functionality, seamless soft‑goods to hard‑goods integration and Design‑for‑Manufacturing compliance.
• Develop production‑ready technical specification packages (Tech‑Packs) with exact measurements, material callouts, stitching patterns and assembly instructions for overseas manufacturing partners.
• Build rapid physical mock‑ups, coordinate with sample makers and conduct rigorous drop‑testing, tumble‑testing, wheel‑mileage and environmental testing.
• Design intelligent internal layouts—including compression systems, modular pocketing and tech compartments—to maximise packing efficiency and improve the airport and transit experience.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Accessory Design or a related field, with a portfolio demonstrating strong hard‑goods and soft‑goods expertise.
• 2–5 years of professional industrial design experience, preferably in luggage, footwear, outdoor gear or consumer accessories.
• Collaborative mindset, excellent communication skills for vendor alignment and a genuine passion for travel, commuting and mobile lifestyles.

Required skills

• 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks, Rhino, Fusion 360) with strong surfacing and assembly capabilities.
• 2D sketching and digital rendering tools (KeyShot, Blender).
• Adobe Creative Suite – Photoshop and Illustrator for technical drawings.
• Basic pattern‑making, sewing and soft‑goods construction knowledge.
• Understanding of molding processes such as injection molding and vacuum forming.
• Material expertise in performance textiles (Ballistic nylon, Cordura, eco‑synthetics) and structural materials (polycarbonate, aluminum, polypropylene).
