General Accountant – Australian Tax & Advisory

About the role

We are looking for an experienced General Accountant to join our Australian tax practice. The role involves delivering high‑quality tax compliance, advisory and accounting services to a diverse client portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review BAS, IAS and other indirect tax obligations in line with ATO regulations.
• Oversee the preparation of income tax returns for individuals, companies, trusts, partnerships and SMSFs.
• Manage the production of financial statements, management reports, consolidated accounts and depreciation schedules.
• Provide technical guidance on CGT, FBT, Division 7A and business structuring.
• Act as primary advisor for key clients, identifying tax planning opportunities and risk mitigation strategies.
• Lead month‑end and year‑end accounting processes, including reconciliations, journal reviews and financial analysis.
• Drive process improvement and automation using Xero, Xero Practice Manager and related platforms.
• Mentor junior staff and ensure deliverables meet quality and audit standards.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in Australian public practice accounting.
• Proven ability to manage complex client portfolios and advisory engagements.
• Strong knowledge of Australian taxation legislation and accounting standards.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency with Xero and Xero Practice Manager.
• Experience using cloud‑based accounting technologies.
