Backend Engineer – Java & Spring

About the role

ING Hubs Philippines is looking for a Backend Engineer to join its Retail Tech team. You will work in a cross‑functional squad, building reliable Java‑based services and APIs that support ING’s wholesale and retail banking operations.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend applications using Java, Spring and Spring Boot.
• Write automated unit and integration tests (JUnit, Mockito) and ensure test coverage.
• Set up and maintain CI/CD pipelines, preferably with Azure DevOps and Maven.
• Adopt DevOps and Agile practices, collaborating closely with product, QA and operations.
• Implement RESTful APIs, integrate with databases and messaging services.
• Apply security best practices throughout the development lifecycle.
• Mentor junior team members and participate in technical interviews.
• Continuously learn emerging technologies and industry trends.

Required profile

• Proven experience building backend solutions with Java 8+ (Java 11 preferred) and Spring frameworks.
• Strong fundamentals in OOP, functional programming, design patterns, concurrency and test‑driven development.
• Experience working in Agile, multicultural environments and using Git for version control.
• Willingness to learn cloud platforms, micro‑services architecture and IT risk concepts.
