Australian Construction Estimator (Remote)

About the role

Set Up My Offshore (SUMO) is recruiting experienced Construction Estimators with experience in the Australian construction industry. This is a remote position. SUMO works with Australian businesses across construction sectors and trades, and welcomes applications from estimators specialising in residential, commercial, civil, demolition, fit-out, carpentry, roofing, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, flooring, painting, glazing, landscaping, or quantity surveying.

Key responsibilities

• Review and interpret construction drawings, plans, specifications and tender documents.
• Carry out accurate material take-offs, measurements and quantity calculations.
• Prepare cost estimates, Bills of Quantities (BOQs) and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Calculate material, labour, equipment and subcontractor costs.
• Request and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Prepare tender submissions, pricing schedules and cost breakdowns.
• Identify discrepancies, cost risks and opportunities for cost optimisation.
• Assist with variations, cost planning and project budget monitoring.
• Coordinate with builders, project managers, suppliers and other stakeholders.
• Ensure estimates are accurate, well documented and submitted on time.

Required profile

• Proven experience in construction estimating, quantity surveying or a related role.
• Experience on Australian construction projects is highly desirable.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings, plans and technical specifications.
• Knowledge of construction materials, labour costs, measurement methods and estimating principles.
• Experience preparing take-offs, cost estimates, BOQs or tender submissions.
• Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Required skills

• Proficiency in relevant estimating software and Microsoft Excel.
• Advantageous: Bluebeam Revu, CostX, Cubit, PlanSwift, Buildxact, Buildertrend or other estimating, take-off or construction management software.
