Analytics Engineer

About the role

GHD is seeking an Analytics Engineer to join its IS Data & Analytics team. The role focuses on transforming raw data into reliable, actionable insights using Microsoft Fabric and Power BI, while supporting stakeholders across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain data models and Power BI semantic models across bronze, silver and gold layers in Microsoft Fabric.
• Write and execute automated tests to ensure data quality and resolve data issues.
• Collaborate with data scientists, analysts and business partners to translate requirements into scalable analytics solutions.
• Participate in code reviews and promote engineering best practices, including version control and CI/CD pipelines.
• Optimise data pipelines for performance, cost and scalability.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics or a related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in analytics engineering, data engineering or BI/data‑warehouse projects, with at least two full‑cycle implementations.
• Strong communication skills and ability to document metric definitions and data contracts.

Required skills

• SQL and data modelling (star schemas, fact/dimension tables, slowly changing dimensions).
• dbt and hands‑on experience with Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Warehouse, Dataflow Gen2, notebooks) or comparable platforms such as Databricks, Synapse or Snowflake.
• Power BI semantic modelling, DAX measures, relationships and row‑level security.
• Version control with Git, peer code reviews and CI/CD pipelines.
• Python and/or PySpark for data processing.
• Power Query for data shaping.
• Azure Data Factory for orchestration, Azure Purview for governance, ADLS, Azure SQL, Key Vault and Azure DevOps.
• KQL and real‑time analytics (Eventhouse/RIT) – nice to have.
