Remote US Senior Accountant – Accrual Accounting (Independent Contractor)

About the role

This full‑time independent contractor position supports a U.S.-based accounting firm that delivers full‑scale finance services to nonprofits, law firms, and service businesses. The role focuses on accrual‑based, full‑cycle accounting with strict month‑end deadlines and minimal supervision.

Key responsibilities

• Manage client books using accrual‑based accounting principles.
• Record and code transactions in QuickBooks Online.
• Handle accounts payable workflows via Bill.com and Ramp.
• Process receipts using DEXT.
• Reconcile all balance‑sheet accounts, including prepaids, deferred revenue, and accrued expenses.
• Prepare accruals and period‑end adjusting entries.
• Support payroll processing and related reconciliations.
• Allocate expenses across functional classes, especially for nonprofit clients.
• Lead monthly close processes and deliver financials by the 10th‑15th of each month.
• Communicate proactively with management about status, issues, and blockers.
• Contribute to SOPs and internal process improvements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
• 3–5 years of U.S. accounting experience (5+ years total preferred).
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
• Experience with accrual‑based accounting and audit‑ready financials.
