Professor of Library & Information Studies – Knowledge Organization

About the role

The School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) at the University of Oklahoma seeks an innovative scholar to join its faculty as a professor specializing in Knowledge Organization. The appointment is open‑rank, tenured/tenure‑track, with a start date of August 16 2024.

Key responsibilities

• Teach two courses per semester, including the core LIS‑5043 Organization of Information and develop new undergraduate courses in Knowledge Organization.
• Supervise undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students through independent studies, advising, and committee service.
• Conduct scholarly research leading to peer‑reviewed publications, book chapters, and conference presentations.
• Seek internal and external research funding.
• Contribute to professional service and university shared governance.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Library and Information Science or a closely related field with a focus on Knowledge Organization.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Strong record of scholarly productivity and potential to secure research funding.
• Commitment to service within the profession and the university community.
