Mechanical Solutions Engineer

About the role

The Mechanical Solutions Engineer will act as the regional technical lead within the Advanced Competitiveness Engineering (ACE) function. Reporting to the Mechanical Solutions Head, the role supports IMI sites during RFQ and product development phases, ensuring cost‑effective designs, on‑time delivery, and high‑quality mechanical components.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the primary technical contact for mechanical solutions across IMI sites, coordinating with regional ACE and cross‑functional teams.
• Provide technical expertise for custom mechanical parts during the RFQ process to achieve competitive pricing and timely completion.
• Develop 3D CAD models and run mechanical simulations to create reliable, robust, and cost‑efficient designs.
• Apply Design‑to‑Cost (DTC) and Design‑for‑Manufacturability (DFM) strategies to identify cost drivers and optimise manufacturing processes.
• Support First Article Inspection (FAI) and qualification of custom‑tooled components to ensure quality and compliance.
• Drive technical development of mechanical suppliers to improve performance and capability.
• Oversee prototype development and the creation of front‑line and back‑end mechanical processes and fixtures.
• Contribute to the continuous evolution of the mechanical solutions engineering roadmap.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• At least two years of related experience is considered an advantage.
• Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with training in problem‑solving and decision‑making.

Required skills

• Proficiency in 3D CAD modelling.
• Experience with mechanical simulation software.
• Knowledge of injection molding, die‑casting, and sheet‑metal stamping processes.
• Understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques.
