Cost Controller

About the role

We are looking for a Cost Controller to ensure the correct application of internal policies, rules and procedures across all company functions and to safeguard the financial integrity of our rail construction projects. The role supports project teams by maintaining accurate cost data, monitoring budgets and providing early warnings on cost impacts.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accuracy, integrity and reliability of cost and financial data in systems such as Compass, LISA and J@DE, including verification of cost allocations and reconciliation with Contracts, Procurement and Project Teams.
• Assist project teams in establishing, monitoring and updating budgets, actual costs, remaining budgets, Estimate to Complete (ETC) and End‑of‑Life forecasts for Trackworks, Overhead Catenary System (OCS) and Civil Works.
• Manage the full Compass lifecycle: create WBS nodes/phases, allocate costs, handle Earned Value and ETC, and process approved budget allocations and transfers.
• Execute monthly cost control activities – period closing, cost capture, accruals, commitments and forecast updates – and prepare comprehensive monthly cost reports.
• Identify, analyse and quantify key cost drivers and variances, providing early warnings on construction‑sequence changes, productivity impacts and material price fluctuations.
• Monitor and control project expenditures by verifying supplier, vendor and subcontractor reports, billings, invoices and claims.
• Coordinate with Engineering, Procurement, Planning, Contracts and Site Teams to ensure timely and accurate cost‑related information.
• Support Commercial and Contract teams with cost data for variations, claims, Extension of Time assessments and change‑impact analysis.
• Maintain complete, accurate and traceable cost records for internal and external audits.

Required profile

• Proven experience in cost control within construction or rail projects.
• Strong understanding of internal policies, financial procedures and risk analysis.
• Ability to work closely with cross‑functional teams such as Contracts, Procurement, Engineering and Site Operations.
• Excellent analytical skills with a focus on early detection of cost overruns and variance drivers.
