Assistant/Associate Professor of Design Studies

About the role

We are seeking an Assistant or Associate Professor of Design Studies to join our academic team. The position involves supervising doctoral dissertations, delivering graduate‑level instruction, and ensuring curriculum compliance within an online learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as dissertation committee chair for Doctor of Design students, overseeing research, committee formation, and milestone evaluation.
• Teach Master of Design and/or Doctor of Design courses, providing research‑grounded instruction in online modalities.
• Monitor curricula to maintain alignment with institutional standards and accrediting body requirements.
• Evaluate student submissions with detailed qualitative and quantitative feedback.
• Respond to student inquiries within 24 hours and conduct proactive outreach via email, phone, and video conferencing.
• Participate in program development, institutional research initiatives, and scholarly community activities.

Required profile

• Earned doctoral degree (or advanced doctoral candidacy with 5+ years professional design experience for Assistant level).
• Minimum 5 years of professional design experience with a strong practice record.
• Substantial graduate‑level teaching experience (5+ years preferred), especially in online formats.
• Recognized academic credentials meeting accrediting body standards.
• Active engagement in design research and scholarship with an emerging or established agenda.
• Professional practice and applied industry experience in a design discipline strongly preferred.
