Water Balance Modeller – Hydrologic & Hydraulic Modelling

About the role
The Water Balance Modeller will support Aurecon’s mission to deliver sustainable, data‑driven water balance and flood modelling solutions for infrastructure, energy and mining projects. Working within the Water Resources team, you will apply climate data analysis and advanced hydrologic/hydraulic modelling to produce safe, client‑focused outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Perform statistical analysis of climate data such as rainfall, evaporation and streamflow.
- Calibrate rainfall‑runoff models using the Australian Water Balance Model (AWBM).
- Develop, calibrate and simulate water balance models.
- Conduct 1D/2D hydrologic and hydraulic modelling to assess flooding on linear infrastructure and energy/mining projects.
- Prepare inputs for technical reports and project documentation.
- Collaborate with team members to deliver technical solutions and innovations for water balance and flood projects.
- Actively engage in knowledge‑sharing initiatives.
Required profile
- Experience with water balance modelling tools such as GoldSIM, opSim and RRL.
- Proficiency with GIS software, preferably QGIS and ArcGIS.
- Additional experience with hydrologic/hydraulic tools (HEC‑HMS, RORB, HEC‑RAS, TUFLOW) is advantageous.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.
- Passion for innovative engineering and continuous learning.
