US Tax Accountant – Remote Midshift Independent Contractor

About the role

We are seeking a detail‑driven US Tax Accountant to work remotely on a mid‑shift schedule. You will prepare tax returns for American expatriates, handling all client communication exclusively via email.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare U.S. individual tax returns (1040, 1040NR, FBAR, and related schedules) for expatriate clients.
• Communicate with clients by email, answering questions, requesting clarifications, and providing status updates.
• Review and organize client‑submitted documents to ensure completeness and IRS compliance.
• Maintain high accuracy during peak filing periods while meeting internal deadlines.
• Collaborate with senior reviewers to ensure complex filings are properly reviewed and signed off.
• Participate in internal training to deepen expertise in expat‑specific tax nuances.

Required profile

• 1–3+ years of experience preparing U.S. individual tax returns, including 1040s and related forms.
• Excellent written English and professional email communication skills.
• Ability to work exclusively on this role without other part‑time or freelance commitments.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage a high volume of returns.

Required skills

• U.S. individual tax preparation (1040, 1040NR, FBAR).
• Knowledge of foreign income exclusion, foreign tax credits, and treaty positions.
• Proficiency in reviewing tax documents for accuracy and compliance.
