Teacher Assistant – Early Childhood Education

About the role

The Teacher Assistant works under the supervision of a classroom teacher to support early childhood learning activities, foster caregiver involvement, and help children transition smoothly into kindergarten. This full‑time position is based in an Early Care and Learning Center serving children from birth to five years old.

Key responsibilities

• Engage with children and families, delivering 80% of the role’s focus on direct interaction.
• Collaborate with teaching staff, contributing 10% of effort to staff relationships.
• Perform administrative tasks such as documentation and assessments, comprising the remaining 10%.
• Assist with classroom routines, playtime supervision, and preparation of learning materials.
• Provide support during non‑traditional hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.

Required profile

• Completion of at least 12 semester units in Early Childhood Education, including 3 units in Infant & Toddler Development.
• Current Teacher Assistant Permit (or pending application with proof) based on the California Teacher Credential Matrix.
• Valid First Aid and CPR certification upon hire or within 30 days.
• Ability to obtain the required permit within 90 days of employment.
