TB Technical Specialist

About the role

The TB Technical Specialist provides technical assistance to Integrated Delivery of TB Services (iDOTS) facilities within the assigned catchment area, ensuring clinical management of TB patients complies with national program protocols. The role supports screening, diagnosis, treatment monitoring, and reporting for both drug‑susceptible and drug‑resistant TB cases.

Key responsibilities

• Guide iDOTS facilities to refer and test all presumptive TB individuals from active case‑finding activities.
• Ensure rapid diagnostic testing (GeneXpert, TrueNat, etc.) and prompt referral of rifampicin‑resistant TB cases.
• Facilitate enrollment of MTB‑detected patients in appropriate treatment sites and oversee contact tracing.
• Support HIV Provider‑Initiated Counseling and Testing (PICT) for TB patients.
• Assist facilities with recording and reporting in physical registers and the Integrated TB Information System (ITIS).
• Manage drug and supply logistics, including adverse drug reaction reporting via the Pharmacovigilance Monitoring System (PViMS).
• Coordinate laboratory linkages for TB RDT, culture, and DST services.
• Provide regular status reports to municipal, provincial, and national health authorities.

Required profile

• Experience in TB program implementation and familiarity with national TB guidelines.
• Ability to travel within the catchment area and work with health‑center staff.
• Strong data‑collection and reporting skills.
• Capacity to train and mentor community volunteers and health workers.

Required skills

• Proficiency with GeneXpert rapid diagnostic testing.
• Proficiency with TrueNat rapid diagnostic testing.
• Use of the Integrated TB Information System (ITIS) for patient data management.
• Use of the Pharmacovigilance Monitoring System (PViMS) for adverse drug reaction reporting.
