Tax Director – Corporate Income & Sales Tax Specialist

About the role

We are seeking a senior Tax Director to lead corporate income tax provision, multi‑state compliance and sales‑use tax strategy for a fast‑growing consumer‑goods and e‑commerce business. The role reports to senior finance leadership and serves as the sole internal tax resource.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review ASC 740 income‑tax provisions and multi‑state corporate tax returns.
• Manage sales and use tax compliance across all U.S. states, including nexus analysis and exemption‑certificate administration.
• Navigate current tariff and trade regulations (Section 301/232, HTS classification, duty drawback, customs compliance) for consumer‑goods and direct‑to‑consumer operations.
• Support Big 4 external audits, assemble tax‑related PBCs and workpapers, and liaise with audit teams.
• Research and apply GAAP (ASC 740) and Internal Revenue Code provisions to complex tax issues.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (finance, legal, operations) to communicate tax implications and ensure compliance.

Required profile

• BS/BA in Accounting, Finance or related field; CPA certification required.
• 10+ years of tax accounting experience in a large private/public company or a mix of public accounting and industry experience.
• Proven ability to work independently as the sole internal tax expert.
• Experience supporting Big 4 audits and preparing tax workpapers.
• Strong analytical, research and communication skills.

Required skills

• Deep expertise in ASC 740 income‑tax provision.
• Extensive knowledge of U.S. federal and multi‑state corporate income tax law.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Familiarity with sales‑use tax automation platforms (e.g., Avalara, Vertex).
• Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite.
