School Carpenter – Maintenance & Construction

About the role

The School Carpenter provides general carpentry, masonry, painting, roof and gutter repair, glass work and minor welding services for the university campus. The role supports daily maintenance, post‑construction activities and event set‑ups, ensuring all wooden fixtures and related structures remain safe and functional.

Key responsibilities

• Measure, cut, shape, assemble and finish rough and fine woodwork for furniture and building fixtures.
• Install hardware such as hinges, knobs and other accessories.
• Repair or replace damaged wooden parts of tables, chairs, doors and similar items.
• Perform masonry tasks, apply plaster or mortar, and carry out painting of surfaces.
• Conduct roof and gutter repairs, waterproofing, and minor welding of metal components.
• Install and repair glass doors, windows and related fittings.
• Transport fixtures and materials across campus using the assigned vehicle.
• Assist departments in setting up stages, backdrops and cycloramas for university events.
• Maintain tools, work areas and conduct periodic inspections of doors, windows and gutters.

Required profile

• Knowledge of customer service standards and ability to respond to internal client needs.
• Understanding of building and construction materials, methods and tools.
• Familiarity with safe transportation of fixtures, materials and equipment.
• Ability to manage material resources and adhere to time‑management requirements.
