Multimedia Journalist & Vertical Video Producer

About the role

The Mary Sue is expanding its social‑first newsroom and seeks a Multimedia Journalist who can produce short‑form vertical videos, primarily for TikTok. You will turn existing stories or fresh ideas into engaging, platform‑native clips that capture the attention of a diverse, culturally‑savvy audience.

Key responsibilities

• Conceptualise, script, film and edit vertical videos for TikTok and other short‑form platforms.
• Identify and adapt existing Mary Sue articles into video‑ready formats.
• Pitch original video ideas that align with entertainment, politics, internet culture, fandom and geek media.
• Monitor trends, analyse performance data, and iterate content strategies to grow reach and engagement.
• Maintain editorial standards, voice, and journalistic integrity in all video output.

Required profile

• Strong news judgment and ability to spot timely, relevant stories.
• Deep familiarity with TikTok’s format, algorithm and audience behavior.
• Creative mindset with a willingness to experiment while avoiding trend fatigue.
• Ability to work quickly under tight deadlines and produce high‑quality content.
