Mid-level Backend Engineer – API Gateway

About the role

Join Benifex as a Mid-level Backend Engineer focused on building a world‑class customer API gateway. You will lead the design, development, and evolution of this critical integration layer, ensuring seamless connectivity for millions of users.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement robust REST APIs using Java and Spring Boot.
• Configure and customise Apigee (or similar) API gateway, applying security policies and traffic management.
• Collaborate with product teams, senior engineers, and the Principal Backend Engineer to deliver API requirements.
• Produce clear API documentation (OpenAPI) under senior guidance.
• Maintain code quality and follow best practices for maintainability.

Required profile

• 4+ years of experience building backend systems with Java/Spring Boot.
• Hands‑on knowledge of Apigee or comparable API‑gateway platforms.
• Strong understanding of REST API design principles.
• Ability to create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation.
• Passion for growing expertise in API design and gateway technologies.
