Mechanical Engineer – FreeCAD (Remote Contract)

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with strong FreeCAD expertise to create and refine detailed 3D models for manufacturing. This remote contract position offers flexible hours and the opportunity to contribute to a variety of production processes.

Key responsibilities

• Create and modify parametric 3D CAD models of mechanical parts and assemblies using FreeCAD or comparable software.
• Develop complete engineering drawings, including GD&T and tolerance stack‑ups, ready for manufacturing handoff.
• Design components for sheet metal fabrication, CNC machining, plastics, and injection molding.
• Conduct CAD validation and quality‑assurance reviews to ensure model accuracy for production.
• Prepare clear technical documentation and assembly instructions for AI model training.
• Incorporate feedback from reviewers to improve models and documentation.

Required profile

• Proven experience designing mechanical components for manufacturing environments.
• Expertise in FreeCAD or similar parametric CAD tools for advanced modeling and drawing generation.
• Hands‑on knowledge of sheet metal, CNC, plastics, and injection molding design considerations.
• Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) best practices.
• Ability to deliver production‑grade CAD models validated against real‑world manufacturability criteria.
