Lead Power Systems Engineer

About the role

Aurecon is seeking a Lead Power Systems Engineer to drive the design and delivery of carbon‑neutral, sustainable power projects. You will work with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions for grid‑connection, network planning and system strength assessments.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake power systems studies, including grid‑connection, network planning, and system strength impact assessments.
• Develop wide‑area network and equipment models using simulation tools such as PSS®E and PSCAD/EMTDC.
• Prepare grid‑connection application documents and technical reports.
• Interface with clients, utilities and industry organisations.
• Provide technical solutions to complex network and connection challenges.

Required profile

• Passion for re‑imagining problems and continuous learning.
• Broad professional experience and proven teamwork.
• Strong understanding of electrical engineering and power‑systems theory (transmission, distribution, generation, control and protection).

Required skills

• Power system modelling tools: PSCAD, PSS/E, PowerFactory, DigSILENT PowerFactory.
• Power system analysis for utility‑scale networks (steady‑state and dynamic studies).
• Coding, scripting and automation for model development.
• Knowledge of the Australian National Electricity Rule and generator connection processes.
• Experience with grid‑connection projects and mentoring junior engineers.
