Heavy Equipment Operator – Civil Construction

About the role

Silak-Municipal GP Limited is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to support a civil construction project in Voisey Bay, Labrador. The role focuses on sediment pond construction, earthworks, and tailings and dyke infrastructure in a challenging northern climate.

Key responsibilities

• Operate excavators (Cat 315, 326, 349), dozers, graders and articulated haul trucks.
• Execute bulk earthworks, excavation, grading, embankment construction and material placement according to project specifications.
• Construct sediment ponds and tailings infrastructure, including precision grading and slope shaping.
• Install and work around geosynthetics, liners and erosion control measures.
• Read and interpret construction drawings, grade stakes, survey layouts and GPS machine‑control systems.
• Perform daily equipment inspections, minor maintenance and report deficiencies.
• Maintain production targets while complying with safety, environmental and quality standards.
• Collaborate with surveyors, supervisors and other crew members to achieve project objectives.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience operating excavators in industrial civil construction.
• Additional 5 years operating a variety of heavy equipment such as dozers and graders.
• Proven ability to work safely and efficiently in remote, harsh environments.
• Strong understanding of civil construction practices and mine development.
