Chief Steward

About the role

The Chief Steward is responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen and dishroom environment at our hotel. This full‑time position supports the food and beverage team by managing supplies, sanitation, and equipment while upholding safety and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Organise cleaning chemicals, supplies and kitchen inventory, including pots, pans, utensils and serving ware.
• Rotate stock, move items from storage to the kitchen, and ensure clean wares are stored correctly.
• Complete cleaning checklists, sanitize work areas, and maintain loading dock, ceiling, walls and vents.
• Operate and maintain dishwashing machines, hand‑wash stations, pot‑scrubbing stations and trash compactors.
• Collect dirty pans from the cooking line and transport them for cleaning.
• Assist management with hiring, training, scheduling and employee coaching.
• Follow company safety policies, report hazards and maintain a professional appearance.
• Perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 25 lb, standing for long periods and reaching overhead.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• At least 1 year of related experience in a kitchen or food‑service environment.
• No prior supervisory experience required.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, physically demanding setting.
