Assistant Professor – Tenure Track

About the role

San Jose State University’s School of Information is seeking an Assistant Professor on the tenure‑track to join its Bachelor of Science program in Information Science and Data Analytics. The successful candidate will teach courses both on‑campus in San Jose and online, and will be expected to develop a research agenda aligned with the school’s priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate courses in information and data science, information security, cybersecurity, user‑centered interface design, big data analytics, information visualization, or related areas.
• Deliver online instruction and support hybrid learning environments.
• Mentor and advise students, including supervising projects and capstone work.
• Develop and maintain an active research program, seeking external funding where appropriate.
• Participate in departmental service, curriculum development, and community outreach.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Information Science, Computer Science, Data Science, or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated ability to teach at the undergraduate level, with a willingness to relocate to the San Jose area.
• Research interests that match at least one of the listed areas, including a possible focus on sports analytics.

Required skills

• Expertise in one or more of the following domains: Information and Data Science, Information Security, Human‑Centered Cybersecurity, User‑Centered Interface Architecture and Prototyping, Big Data Analytics and Management, Information Visualization.
