Assistant Professor – Machine Learning & Computational Social Science

About the role

The School of Information at the University of Arizona is hiring multiple tenure‑track Assistant Professors to advance research on misinformation in social media and networks. The role combines high‑impact research with undergraduate and graduate teaching across both online and face‑to‑face formats.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead independent research programs in machine learning, natural language processing, or computational social science.
• Publish findings in top‑tier journals and conferences.
• Secure external funding, including interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary grants.
• Teach and develop courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Supervise graduate students and contribute to student advising.
• Participate in academic leadership activities such as program supervision and curriculum development.

Required profile

• Demonstrated record of research in machine learning, NLP, or computational social science with a focus on misinformation.
• Experience with big‑data computational methodologies.
• Interest in academic leadership and interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Strong teaching record and commitment to academic citizenship.
