Assistant Professor – Logic & Symbolic AI for Computational Law

About the role

The Department of Computer Science at the University of Copenhagen seeks a 24‑month Assistant Professor to lead research at the intersection of logic, symbolic AI, computational law and declarative business process management. The position is part of the XHAILe project, which aims to develop explainable hybrid AI solutions for legal and e‑government applications.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct high‑quality research in logic‑based and symbolic AI methods for computational law.
• Develop and apply declarative process‑modelling techniques, including DCR Graphs, to legal and business domains.
• Collaborate closely with industry partners (DCR Solutions, KL, TietoEvry) and academic partners (DTU Compute, Faculty of Law, Department of Nordic Studies and Linguistics).
• Publish findings in top‑tier conferences and journals and contribute to project deliverables and benchmarks.
• Participate in teaching and supervision activities within the Computer Science department.

Required profile

• PhD in Computer Science, Logic, Artificial Intelligence or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated research experience in logic, symbolic AI or declarative decision and business process modelling.
• Strong publication record in relevant areas.
• Experience with computational law is an advantage.

Required skills

• Expertise in formal logic and symbolic AI techniques.
• Knowledge of declarative process‑modelling languages (e.g., DCR Graphs).
• Ability to work interdisciplinary with legal scholars and industry engineers.
