Actuarial Assistant Manager, Actuarial Consulting Group

About the role

The MGS Actuarial department provides actuarial services to Manulife business areas across Asia and North America, specializing in model validation, experience studies and valuation work. It is looking for candidates with prior actuarial experience to join its team. The role sits within the Actuarial Consulting Group and involves valuation and modelling work.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and test actuarial models in GGY Axis or other software.
• Maintain and run valuation models for monthly and quarterly reserve calculation and financial reporting.
• Analyze reserve, capital and risk calculations and comment on results to management.
• Mentor junior team members and review their valuation work.
• Support control walkthroughs so that controls, collection and presentation of audit evidence follow SOX guidelines.
• Take part in project teams to ensure tasks meet requirements and deadlines.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics or Statistics.
• Strong knowledge of actuarial concepts applied to life insurance: probability, interest theory and life contingencies.
• Strong quantitative, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to explain complex actuarial concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Good team player, able to work with minimal supervision and under pressure.
• Preferred: driven to attain designation in a recognized actuarial organization such as SoA or ASP, and has passed all five SoA preliminary exams.

Required skills

• Demonstrated strong knowledge of database software and Microsoft Excel.
• Preferred: knowledge of VBA macros and actuarial modelling software such as GGY Axis.
