Senior Tax Associate – US Tax Preparation

About the role

Remote People is looking for an experienced Senior Tax Associate to work on a contract basis, preparing complex U.S. federal and multi‑state tax returns for individuals, partnerships, and corporations. The role demands strong technical tax knowledge, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while collaborating closely with a Tax Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare full U.S. federal and multi‑state individual income tax returns (Form 1040) with all supporting schedules.
• Prepare U.S. partnership returns (Form 1065) including Schedules K‑1, K‑2/K‑3, and partner capital account reconciliations.
• Prepare U.S. C‑corporation and S‑corporation returns (Form 1120/1120S) with Schedule M‑1/M‑3 reconciliations, book‑to‑tax adjustments, and multi‑state apportionments.
• Review client‑provided source documents for completeness and accuracy.
• Resolve routine IRS and state tax notices, obtain Power of Attorney, and communicate directly with tax authorities.
• Identify and research technical tax issues, escalating complex items to the reviewing manager.
• Prepare supporting workpapers that reconcile tax positions to source data.
• Respond to review notes and deliver revisions within agreed timelines.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in a U.S. public accounting firm.
• Professional designation such as CPA or EA, or equivalent tax qualification.
• Experience with multi‑state and local tax filings.

Required skills

• Proficiency in major U.S. tax preparation software (e.g., CCH Axcess, ProConnect Tax).
