Senior Software Engineer

About the role

Odola, a fintech focused on democratising premium banking, is seeking an experienced Senior Back‑End Engineer to design and build the core infrastructure behind its banking and payments platform. You will work with a high‑calibre team that has previously contributed at Amazon, Canva, IBM and Deloitte, tackling complex money‑movement challenges in a regulated environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable backend services for banking, payments and card programmes.
• Build robust APIs and workflows for accounts, transactions, ledgers and customer servicing.
• Lead or support integrations with banks, card processors, sponsor banks, BIN sponsors and payment networks.
• Define technical foundations for card authorisation, settlement, reconciliation and dispute handling.
• Improve performance of databases, event pipelines, caching layers and messaging systems.
• Ensure systems are observable, fault‑tolerant and correct for financial operations.
• Write well‑tested, production‑grade code handling edge cases and failure modes.
• Strengthen engineering processes, tooling and standards, and contribute to AI‑driven automation.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building production backend systems.
• Strong background in Java or TypeScript for backend development.
• Direct experience with payments, bank integrations, card programmes, issuer processing or similar regulated fintech infrastructure.
• Deep understanding of reliability, idempotency, reconciliation and failure handling in transaction‑heavy systems.
• Hands‑on experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• Experience working on cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud or Azure).
