Senior Design Engineer

About the role

The Senior Design Engineer will lead structural and geotechnical design activities for large‑scale infrastructure and marine projects. You will coordinate with design, construction management and project control teams to ensure timely delivery and compliance with standards.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all structural/geotechnical design, review contractor submissions and endorse internal quality control.
• Coordinate design tasks with construction management and project control to support construction progress.
• Manage a team of Design Engineers, providing guidance for design management and project delivery.
• Prepare and approve correspondence on design and geotechnical instrumentation issues.
• Deliver engineering services for marine facilities, including revetments, shoreline protection, ports and harbours.
• Conduct soil investigations, field tests, laboratory work and design of soil improvement and coastal protection works.
• Ensure designs follow SMEC Design Process Plan and standards such as British Standard, ASTM and Philippine codes.
• Liaise independently with clients, contractors and government authorities throughout the design process.
• Review and approve design reports, specifications and tender documents.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering from a recognized university.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in large‑scale infrastructure or reclamation projects.
• Proven ability to manage and coordinate design activities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Team player, self‑motivated and resourceful.

Required skills

• Proficiency with AutoCAD.
• Experience using Civil 3D.
• Knowledge of Plaxis for geotechnical analysis.
• Advanced use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
