Senior Buyer – Direct Commodity, Purchasing

About the role

The Senior Buyer – Direct Commodity is responsible for procuring goods and services that ensure continuity of supply for Advanced Energy’s business groups. The role supports internal requirements, corporate cost objectives, and drives cost‑effective solutions for indirect spending across local and global regions while overseeing quality, delivery and cost performance.

Key responsibilities

• Source and develop new suppliers for direct materials such as PCBs, heatsinks, bobbins, magnetic cores, connectors, cables and wires.
• Manage RFQ/RFP processes, conduct cost analysis and negotiate prices.
• Convert internal requisitions into accurate Purchase Orders, validating details and pricing.
• Confirm deliveries and expedite orders with suppliers.
• Handle urgent or emergency requests outside normal planning cycles.
• Collaborate with accounts payable, end users and suppliers to resolve invoice or PO variances.
• Manage returns or RMAs for faulty products.
• Assist onboarding of new suppliers and maintain up‑to‑date supplier data.
• Update lead‑times for goods in the system when applicable.
• Partner with internal stakeholders (operations, planning, commodity managers, design engineering, finance) to understand requirements and provide procurement expertise.
• Evaluate supplier performance using KPIs and conduct regular business reviews.
• Ensure purchasing activities comply with corporate policies and audit requirements.
• Support global manufacturing factories, design centers and service locations as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Finance or related field.
• Proactive problem‑solver with strong planning orientation.
• Ability to respond quickly, decisively and professionally to changing requirements.
• Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• At least 5 years of experience managing a diverse portfolio of indirect categories in a senior buyer role.
