Professor (Open Rank) – Knowledge Organization

About the role

The School of Library and Information Studies at the University of Oklahoma seeks an innovative scholar to join its faculty as an Open Rank, tenure‑track professor specializing in Knowledge Organization. The appointment begins August 16, 2024 and supports teaching, research, and service across undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs.

Key responsibilities

• Teach two courses each semester, including the core LIS‑5043 Organization of Information and new undergraduate Knowledge Organization courses.
• Supervise independent studies, advise students, and serve on graduate committees.
• Conduct scholarly research leading to peer‑reviewed publications, book chapters, and conference presentations.
• Seek internal and external research funding.
• Contribute to professional service and shared governance within the university.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Library and Information Science or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated expertise in Knowledge Organization, including indexing, classification, and representation of information resources.
• Strong record of research and publication in the field.
• Experience teaching at the graduate level and ability to develop new curricula.
• Commitment to service to the profession and academic community.
