Professor of Science Engagement

About the role

The Department of Science Education at the University of Copenhagen seeks a distinguished scholar to lead research in science engagement across natural science disciplines. The professor will develop the field, supervise research fellows, and contribute to teaching at both bachelor and master levels.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct and publish research on public engagement with natural sciences.
• Develop assessment tools, write grant applications, and manage research projects.
• Supervise and mentor research fellows and doctoral candidates.
• Teach and supervise BSc and MSc courses, coordinate curricula, and assess examinations.
• Design and deliver lifelong learning activities on science engagement for university staff and external professionals.
• Participate in departmental and faculty governance, including leadership and management tasks.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant field and an MSc in a natural science discipline.
• Documented university‑level teaching experience and pedagogical training equivalent to the University of Copenhagen’s teacher‑training programme for assistant professors.
• Strong record of research on public engagement across natural sciences.
• Deep understanding of diffusion pathways of science in society and expertise in critical research approaches (e.g., critical theory, feminist theory, arts‑based methods).
• Extensive international collaboration and proven organizational contribution.
