Mobile Equipment Technician / Heavy Duty Fitter

About the role

We are looking for an experienced, safety‑focused Mobile Equipment Technician / Heavy Duty Fitter to join the maintenance team at our open‑pit mining operations in Suriname (with sites also in Guyana, Serbia and DRC). The role involves hands‑on inspection, preventive maintenance and repair of a large fleet of heavy mobile mining equipment to maximise availability and support site safety and productivity.

Key responsibilities

• Perform daily inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs on haul trucks, excavators, wheel loaders, dozers and graders.
• Execute scheduled servicing and component overhauls following manufacturer guidelines and site maintenance plans.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and basic electrical faults using diagnostic tools and technical manuals.
• Replace and repair defective components such as engines, transmissions, hydraulic cylinders, pumps and electrical systems.
• Complete accurate maintenance records, job cards and parts requests in the CMMS.
• Follow all safety policies, including lockout/tagout, hazardous energy control and site‑specific risk assessments.
• Collaborate with operators, supervisors and other trades to minimise equipment downtime.
• Provide input on equipment condition and repair histories to support maintenance planning.

Required profile

• Recognised trade qualification as a Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic, Mobile Plant Fitter or equivalent.
• 3–5 years of hands‑on experience maintaining large off‑road mining equipment in a production environment.
• Proven experience with CAT, Komatsu or Hitachi heavy equipment.
• Ability to work on a rotational roster and live on‑site in a remote, tropical environment.
• Good command of English.
