Lead Power Electronics Engineer

About the role

A client of Cygnify is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Lead Power Electronics Engineer to drive the design, development and optimisation of power electronics solutions for its product range. The role leads the full development lifecycle, from concept and specification through design, simulation, prototyping, testing and mass production support.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the power electronics development lifecycle, from concept and specification through design, simulation, prototyping, testing and mass production support.
• Design power conversion systems such as AC/DC, DC/DC and inverters, focusing on efficiency, power density, reliability and cost-effectiveness.
• Carry out circuit analysis, component selection and worst-case analysis, and perform power loss and thermal analysis with appropriate cooling solutions.
• Develop test plans covering functional, performance, reliability and compliance testing.
• Work with mechanical, firmware and industrial design engineers to integrate power electronics into the product architecture.
• Mentor junior power electronics engineers and manage project timelines, resources and deliverables.
• Identify and mitigate technical risks and stay up to date with emerging technologies, industry trends and regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics Engineering or a related field.
• At least 8 years of progressive experience in power electronics design and development, including at least 3 years in a leadership or senior engineering role.
• Proven expertise in power converter topologies such as flyback, buck, boost, LLC, resonant converters and PFC.
• Knowledge of power semiconductor devices such as MOSFETs, IGBTs, GaN and SiC.
• Experience in consumer electronics or high-volume manufacturing is a plus.

Required skills

• Power electronics simulation tools such as SPICE, PSIM, PLECS and MATLAB/Simulink.
• PCB design tools such as Altium Designer, Eagle and KiCad.
• Thermal management and EMC design, and regulatory compliance standards such as UL, CE and CCC.
• Problem-solving, analytical thinking and teamwork skills.
