Center Nurse – Scrub Nurse (Operating Room)

About the role

The Center Nurse – Scrub Nurse is a specialized member of the surgical team at the Cebu Comprehensive Cleft Care Center of Excellence. Working in the operating room, the nurse maintains the sterile field and provides direct intra‑operative assistance for cleft lip and palate procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Perform surgical hand scrub, gowning and gloving according to sterile protocol.
• Set up and organize the sterile field with instruments, supplies and equipment specific to cleft surgeries.
• Assist with patient draping, surgeon gowning and gloving.
• Maintain strict sterile technique throughout the case and pass instruments, sutures and supplies efficiently.
• Handle electrosurgical (cautery) cords, suction tubing and other equipment as needed.
• Conduct sponge, sharps and instrument counts with the circulating nurse at defined intervals.
• Perform final counts, verify removal of throat packs and document local anesthetic usage.
• Assist with patient drape removal, wound cleaning and safe disposal of sharps.

• Strong surgical conscience and meticulous attention to detail.
• Ability to remain composed under pressure.
• Full mastery of surgical instruments, supplies and safety protocols for cleft lip and palate repairs.
• Knowledge of the specific requirements of cleft surgery procedures.
