Center Nurse – Pre/Post Operative Ward

About the role

The Center Nurse for the Pre/Post Operative Ward at Operation Smile Philippines’ Cebu Center of Excellence provides dedicated nursing care for cleft‑care patients during the critical pre‑operative preparation and post‑operative recovery phases. The role ensures patient safety, high‑quality clinical care, and smooth coordination with the medical and anesthesia teams.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct and document comprehensive pre‑operative nursing assessments for all scheduled surgical patients.
• Verify patient identity, surgical procedure, and consent documentation.
• Prepare patients for surgery according to OSP and COE protocols, including NPO status, skin preparation, IV access, and pre‑operative medications.
• Provide orientation and education to patients and families about the procedure and post‑operative care.
• Coordinate safe patient transfer to the operating room and communicate readiness to the OR team.
• Receive patients from PACU/OR, perform handoff assessments, and monitor vital signs, pain, wound status, and recovery progress.
• Manage post‑operative pain per physician orders and document any deviations.
• Assess discharge readiness, coordinate discharge planning, and deliver discharge education.
• Maintain accurate documentation in the OSP EMR and adhere to reporting requirements.
• Implement nursing policies, participate in safety and quality initiatives, and ensure ward cleanliness and infection control.

Required profile

• Registered or licensed clinical nurse with experience in pre‑ and post‑operative care.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including surgeons and anesthesia providers.
• Strong communication skills for patient and family education.
• Attention to detail and commitment to patient safety and quality standards.
