Automation Engineer

About the role

The Automation Engineer designs, develops, implements and maintains intelligent automation solutions that streamline business processes and improve operational efficiency. Working with business and technology teams, the role identifies automation opportunities and delivers scalable, reliable solutions using RPA, low-code/no-code platforms and emerging technologies such as AI. The engineer may also support production incidents, automation asset sustainment and maintenance, and contribute to team capability through knowledge sharing, training and mentoring.

Key responsibilities

• Translate business requirements into automated solutions and help clients evaluate manual operations to find performance improvements.
• Design, develop, test, implement, maintain and enhance automation and AI solutions, including creating and maintaining reusable script libraries.
• Implement error handling, logging and exception management, and run performance and regression testing.
• Run technical spikes and proof-of-concepts, and collaborate with business analysts, stakeholders and Scrum team members to deliver automation on time.
• Follow Scrum/Agile practices and take part in stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, reviews and retrospectives.
• Maintain automation documentation (ERL/Confluence) and prepare training materials, processes and workflows.
• Monitor and report persistent issues, resolve escalated issues, and follow coding standards and design patterns.
• Share knowledge through brownbag sessions, explore automated testing approaches and stay current with AI and emerging technologies.

Required profile

• At least 3-5 years of experience in RPA development.
• Experience with Power Platform, Power Automate and GitHub.
• Familiarity with Agile methodology and the SDLC.
• Ability to read and write process design and solution design documents.

Required skills

• Low-code/no-code platforms (RPA/RDA); Automation Anywhere, Power Automate, Power Apps, Power BI highly preferred.
• Programming and scripting: Python, JavaScript, JSON, XML, web services, MS-SQL, C#, Visual Basic.
• SQL, APIs, web services, integration techniques, data extraction and transformation, ETL/ELT, cloud data pipelines.
• Workflow orchestration, exception handling, general software testing knowledge, and basic understanding of AI and large language models.

Preferred qualifications include GitHub, Power Automate, Power BI, Power Apps, Automation Anywhere, UI Path and Blue Prism. The position is hybrid.
