Senior Middleware Engineer (Solutions Engineering)

About the role

The L3 Middleware Engineer (Solutions Engineering) is a senior technical role at Manulife responsible for designing, engineering and optimizing middleware platforms that support enterprise applications. The role focuses on solutions engineering, advanced L3 troubleshooting and driving modernization initiatives across cloud environments. It is a hybrid position based in Makati City.

Key responsibilities

• Solutions engineering and architecture: design and implement scalable, secure and highly available middleware solutions aligned with enterprise architecture standards, and partner with application, infrastructure and DevOps teams on integration patterns and platform strategy.
• Lead solution design for application onboarding, modernization and cloud migration, and evaluate and recommend middleware technologies, frameworks and architecture patterns.
• L3 support: act as escalation point for complex middleware incidents and performance issues, perform deep root cause analysis, implement permanent fixes and drive proactive problem management and platform stability.
• Platform engineering: engineer and optimize middleware platforms on Azure and on-premises, implementing high availability, disaster recovery and performance tuning.
• Cloud and modernization: lead and support cloud migration from on-prem to Azure IaaS/PaaS and design cloud-native middleware solutions using Azure services.
• Security and governance: implement TLS, certificate lifecycle, patching and hardening, and ensure compliance with enterprise security policies.

Required profile

• 7+ years of experience in middleware engineering.
• Strong experience with middleware platforms such as WebSphere, WebLogic, Tomcat and IIS.
• Experience with integration patterns and cloud migration.
• Background in application development is a big plus.

Required skills

• Azure and/or other cloud platforms (API Management, Service Bus, App Services)
• Preferred: DevOps and CI/CD exposure, Docker/Kubernetes containerization, Azure certifications
