Associate Principal Engineer - Design Engineering

About the role

Cygnify is hiring an Associate Principal Engineer for its Design Engineering team in Batangas, Philippines. The team turns product concepts into robust, manufacturable designs for individual parts, assemblies and whole products. As Associate Principal Engineer, you will work with the client's internal teams and JDM partners to deliver mechanical designs and product integration, ensuring quality and timely delivery of work from development partners in a cost-effective way.

Key responsibilities

• Requirements management: promote requirement management practices, help create design requirements, and ensure JDM partners interpret and implement them correctly.
• Planning and reporting: identify dependencies and risks, assess and plan activities, monitor progress to stakeholders, and propose resource and schedule adjustments for scope changes.
• Design management: oversee mechanical design solutions from JDM teams, including electrical parts, and drive efficient design reviews and issue management.
• Build and test evaluation: assess build quality against requirements, and provide technical guidance on test planning, test methods and test reporting.
• Design maturity assessment: evaluate design iteration outcomes such as performance, robustness, manufacturability and residual risks.
• Change and part approval: review and approve change requests, part approvals and deviation requests.
• JDM engagement: evaluate JDM partners' design and manufacturing capabilities and provide expertise on RFI, RFP and SOW documents.
• Tools and process improvement: identify gaps in tools, workflows and documentation and drive more efficient, scalable processes.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent.
• Proven track record of developing engineering solutions from concept to market launch.
• Experience collaborating with JDM partners, building trust and credibility.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication with stakeholders at all levels.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of Systems Engineering, Requirements Management and Risk Management.
• Deep knowledge of plastic injection molding, metal stamping, die-casting and rubber parts, and working knowledge of motors and pumps; able to challenge tool makers, molders and assembly suppliers.
• Ability to estimate costs of design options and select the most cost-effective direction.
• Practical knowledge of 3D CAD, PLM systems and analysis packages.
